Again, the AWW were represented by Myriam, Dina and myself, for the first walk of Almargem’s year starting at the market place in Bensafrim, which was very convenient for the Lagos contingent at least..
54 walkers were expected, but ONLY 49 turned up, Saturday night’s clubbing no doubt accounting for the discrepancy! The majority were female and somewhat less middle-aged than us.
The leaders were the same as on our last walk with Almargem at Pedralva in November last year, Clara and João, and they alternate leading and following up the rear, which was a useful technique with such a large field.
The track – a 16 km circuit from Bensafrim
The first trig point was the one to the south of Bensafrim, where coincidentally I have a Geocache, and I was able to perform maintenance, while the rest admired the view.
The almond blossom was in it’s first flush and particularly attractive still dewy in the morning sun…..
A much more leisurely lunch than is our norm was taken at Almares Comprido near a ruina which provided seating for some.
I managed, with the aid of the Gorillapod to take my largest group photo to date, and to their credit, Almargem were much more biddable and easier to arrange than their grumpier AWW counterparts.
This was taken at the old moinho to the north of Bensafrim, a site of a previous AWW walk photo, almost exactly one year ago but with significantly different attendance and weather! (click link)
Stats for the walk are in a new easyfill format……..
plus the total ascent was 624 metres and max elevation 380 metres.
….and apparently it was all worth it as Myriam got her cake at the end!!
Cakenose!
“It is not given to us to peer into the mysteries of the future. Still, I avow my hope and faith, sure and inviolate, that in the days to come the AWW and Almargem peoples will for their own safety and for the good of all walk together side by side in majesty, in justice, and in peace.” (after) Churchill, Winston
